Dr. Jonathan B. Salinas graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a competitive degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology. He then continued by obtaining his medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. As a medical student, he worked extensively with the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA), at a local and national level, where he was part of numerous outreach events and clinics for the Latino community. These experiences helped him realized that the Latino community was in need for medical care in every field, including surgical specialties.
Dr. Salinas developed a special interest in voice disorders, as he had a deep rooted interest in the care of the professional voice, which stemmed from his experience as a musician and the fact that his mother was a professional singer in Perú. Hence, as a medical student at UCLA, he began a close mentorship with world-class laryngologists & voice specialists, Drs. Gerald Berke and Dinesh Chhetri. Thus, he remained in Los Angeles to complete his surgical residency training in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, at the prestigious Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the Ronald Reagan – UCLA Medical Center. Subsequently, he was selected to complete a Laryngology Fellowship at UCLA, where he further honed his skills in the comprehensive management of voice, airway and swallowing disorders. He concurrently held positions as Clinical Instructor in Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA Medical Center and as an attending surgeon at Olive View – UCLA Medical Center.
